Tower of
Doom
After a super
long lasting brief interlude of no
game review/guides at all. I have
come back to my senses and found a
new game to play through. I am
sure there have been many good
ones out there in the past few
months but none that quite tickled
my fancy enough to finish.
Anyways, enough with the feeble
excuses and on to the
game.
Tower of Doom is a
fun little game with eight
different levels of funjoyment.
Your goal in this game is to build
up your tower's fire power to fend
off the villagers --who don't want
to see their land demolished--
until you can demolish their land.
There is a set time on each level
that you must survive until and
then your tower unleashes its
invisible doom spell. Do this
seven times and you have won the
adventure part of the game. The
final level has an endless supply
of farmers, knights and catapults;
your goal here is to attempt to
survive long enough to place
yourself into the high scores.
Good luck with that
one..
On to the specifics
of the levels.
The first
level, Aragoth, is a tutorial
level and pretty simple to beat.
You begin the level with 120g. I
start (the level) with one fire
tower and, as the level
progresses, pick up one extra
magic tower. This is sufficient to
beat the first level.
The
second level, Narnijah, starts you
off with 100g and a new unit, the
armored soldier. Again I start
off with one fire tower and later
when I have more money I purchase
one magic tower and one upgrade
for the fire tower. I lost a bit
of HP here waiting on the fire
tower upgrade but it wasn't enough
to ruin me. Seeing as how HP is
replenished on each level, I
didn't see any need to attempt to
end the level with perfect
health.
Futland, the
third land, begins with 170g and
your new unit(s) is the royal
soldier. This is the first level
where things start to get a little
hairy. In fact, it was the only
level where things got a little
hairy. I tried several different
tower combinations to start off
with and had little success until
I tried starting off with 1 fire
tower and 1 magic tower. After
trying so many tower combinations,
only to find that most of them
left me dead seconds after the
royal soldiers hit, I knew that I
had come across a gem with the
fire and magic towers. Magic
towers are the only towers besides
the ice tower that hits multiple
enemies and the fire towers are
the hardest hitting tower. These
two towers made a very powerful
combination that would lead to a
pattern that I could use for the
entire game. Anyhoo, I started
this level off using my gold to
build one magic tower with one
upgrade. My next tower was the
fire tower and I upgraded it as
quickly as I could to help take
out those dasterdly royal
soldiers. Those two towers, each
upgraded once, were plenty of
power to finish off the level
without a second glance. Of
course, there is no point in
saving money in this game since it
does not carry over to the other
lands but I wanted to see just how
little I could scrape by with on
each level.
Land four,
Telaroth, begins with 150g and
your new units are the knights.
The knights ride in fast and will
do a good deal of damage to your
tower if you let them. The key
here is to get them down quick
before they come too close. I
started this level off with 1 fire
tower and 1 magic tower. I
upgraded the magic as soon as I
had the chunk of change required.
Next I upgraded fire because
without one upgrade on the fire
tower the knights were able to
come in and get 1 hit off on the
tower before finally dying. I
ended this level with one fire
tower with one upgrade, two magic
towers with two upgrades and an
extra 1k gold to do nothing with.
After completing
Telaroth, two new lands open up,
Beldar and Infiniland. Infiniland
is the home of the survival level
and the "chance" to go down in
Tower of Doom history with your
name burned forever into the high
score table. Beldar is the fifth
land that you will attempt to
release your doom spell upon.
Beldar commences with 250g
and your new units are the royal
knights. These are just like the
last knights except now they have
pretty armor that protects them
from the fury of your tower. With
this wealth of gold I started the
level off by building one magic
tower, upgraded once and one fire
tower. At some point, someone
thought it would be funny to
unleash a herd of knights
galloping towards your tower. This
tower setup cuts it a little close
when the groups of knights are
sent out. I ended the level with
two magic towers, upgraded thrice
and one fire tower, upgraded
twice. I also got the closest I
ever came to losing in the
adventure mode, sinking all the
way down to 43 hp.

Deku Reviews Issue 5: Tower of
Doom
re: Deku Reviews Issue 5: Tower of
Doom
Land six, Centori starts off with
350g and a new unit, the catapult.
This level introduces you to that
catapult right off the bat,
sending one lone ghost operated
catapult towards your tower just
to show you how tough it is. After
demolishing this first catapult,
you won't see another one of these
guys for a whole two minutes, just
until you start thinking that
maybe you never even saw one in
the first place. I start this
level by building one fire tower,
upgraded once and one magic tower,
upgraded once. I ended with two
magic towers with three upgrades
and one fire tower with one
upgrade.
Land seven, LionPeak, is the last of the adventure section of the game. This level begins with 400g and no new units, although it does reintroduce the catapult as a new unit. Interpret that as you will. I began this level with one fire tower, upgraded once and one magic tower, also upgraded once. This was supposedly the land of the King and would be the most difficult land to defeat but I found it quite uneventful. I expected maybe a new background with a castle or something but I was left wanting. I ended this level with one fire tower, upgraded once and two magic towers, fully upgraded.
Infiniland, land of the infinite barrage of farmers and soldiers. This King must be very persuasive to be able to send unit after unit to their death and still have an infinite number of humans lined up ready to sacrifice their lives. I am sad to say that I was unable to land myself in the top 25 high scores table. Infiniland has a few surprises in store for you. If you are able to make it to the six minute mark then you will enjoy units that become increasingly harder as time passes and also units that slow for a shorter duration of time. I was only able to make it to the eight minute mark so I do not know if there are any more surprises in store for those who are able to survive longer.
I enjoyed this game from the start. From the music and sounds, to the amusing way the villagers fell onto their backs as they died defending their land, it was a delightful game. I was disappointed at the lack of actual doom spell realization. I was hoping that when I "cast" the doom spell I would expel a large mushroom cloud of, well, doom, that would kill the rest of the farmers and soldiers left on the screen. Instead, I received a nice little pop up message that let me know I had lived long enough to cast doom upon the poor people of the land. Also, once I discovered the Holy Grail of fire tower plus magic tower the game lost any sense of difficulty that it once had. I finished all levels with three towers or less and plenty of extra gold to spare. Other than those two cons, the rest of the game was fun and well worth a play through.
